I didn’t think I could be more outraged by the RNC than I have been ever since they unveiled their VP choice and began trumpeting her biography, with the centerpiece that she nobly, heroically, and ethically elected to not abort her Down Syndrome child. New Kid has already written with eloquent fury about the offensive nature of this whole story.
But now … with the seventeen-year-old daughter’s pregnancy and the inflated rhetoric about her noble, heroic, and ethical choice to marry her impregnater and not abort the fetus … I just can’t take it! I’m so angry I can’t see straight.
Can we please stop congratuating the women of the Palin family for not having abortions?

Notorious Ph.D.
Nice. Very succinct.
Also angry about: “We made the announcement to counter internet rumors that blah blah blah…” So, the announcement was, as I read it, explicitly for political damage control.

The whole thing makes me sad for the teenager daughter and very apprehensive about the possibility of Palin as VP. I read a quote from her on Huffington Post culled from her 2006 gubernatorial campaign when she said she would oppose abortion even if her own daughter were *raped.* There’s something terribly wrong with a parent who can say that.

i know. wow, the palin women are all so noble doing their womanly duties as wives and mothers. i do wonder if bristol is being coerced by family/politics to marry the father and have the baby. not to do so would destroy the ticket. wow, in which case would make her even more noble than her mother!
i bet sarah palin, god forbid if mccain is elected, comes out with a cookbook–how to take care of your president: recipes from the VP kitchen. (it won’t come from cindy because she’s been busted twice for plagiarizing recipes). crime in italy, this whole thing makes me want to barf.

Egads, Casey, that’s a terrifying tidbit! I can’t NOT vote for the Republicans any more than I already was going to NOT vote for them, but I wish I could do SOMETHING else besides rant and steam …

To be slightly fair, the internet rumors that Trig was actually Bristol’s child and Palin faked being the parent were kind of creepy – especially the “let’s post lots of photos of the Palin women’s bellies!”
But yes, the “virtue” of not aborting is really just sickening. I wish they’d just shut up already about these women’s personal lives and sexuality! This has what to do with the election??
